Materials Used – EPS Insulation, Perimeter Strip, A142 Day Joints, Tarmac Cem-Screed, Site-Mixed Screed
Job Details:
Interior Screed was proud to be selected to install the floor screeds for the Marks & Spencer East Midlands Distribution Centre. This large-scale project presented a variety of logistical challenges, which we overcame with tailored solutions to ensure a smooth, high-quality installation.
Screed Installation Process: We employed our efficient site-mixing method, using screed pumps to blend graded washed sharp sand—sourced from our nationwide network of aggregate suppliers—with our bagged cement products. This method allowed us to deliver high-quality floor screeds quickly and cost-effectively.
The floor screeds were installed as floating screeds over EPS insulation, with some sections bonded directly to the slab using SBR bonding. This versatile approach ensured the best possible performance in terms of durability and thermal insulation.
Site-Specific Solutions: Given the scale of the project and site access restrictions, our team provided a cost-effective solution that enabled the contractor to keep to tight schedules without compromising on quality. We regularly provide waste disposal facilities or request pre-ply boarding of screed mixing areas to maintain a clean and tidy installation process. For this project, we also lined out the work area with polythene to protect surrounding areas—at no additional cost.
Logistical Expertise: To address the project’s demands, we pumped the screed up to 150 meters from a static mixing area, ensuring even the most distant sections were reached efficiently. Our nationwide network of graded British Standard sand and aggregate suppliers allowed us to seamlessly deliver between 20 to 100 tonnes of materials per day, ensuring the project remained on schedule.
Project Outcome: We successfully installed between 100m² to 400m² of screed per day, depending on site conditions and lead-in times, ultimately completing the 5,689m² installation to the highest standard. In addition to screed installation, we provided and fitted insulation systems, gas barriers, polythene layers, and liquid damp proof membranes (DPMs) to ensure a comprehensive flooring solution.
This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering top-quality screeding services, no matter the scale or site conditions. Our expertise in site mixing, flexible logistics, and material sourcing ensured the success of the Marks & Spencer Distribution Centre development.
