Interior Screed is proud to have delivered the floor screeds for the SCEAS project at Manchester University, covering four floors with a total area of 2,568m². This project presented several logistical challenges, which we successfully managed through efficient site-mixed screed installations and innovative solutions.
Screed Installation Process: We used our reliable site-mixing method, employing screed pumps to mix graded washed sharp sand sourced from our nationwide network of aggregate suppliers, combined with our high-quality bagged cement products. This approach ensured the timely and efficient delivery of floor screeds across multiple levels of the building.
The screeds were installed floating over thermal insulation, with some sections directly bonded to the slab using SBR bonding for enhanced durability. Our ability to adapt to varying site conditions ensured that the screeds were laid to perfection, despite the complex falls and cross-falls involved in the project.
Site-Specific Solutions: Due to site access restrictions, we provided a cost-effective solution by pumping the screed up to 150 meters from a static mixing area. To ensure a clean and efficient work environment, we pre-ply boarded the screed mixing areas and lined them with polythene, maintaining a tidy installation process without any additional cost to the client.
Logistical Expertise: Our nationwide supply chain and logistics capabilities enabled us to deliver between 20 to 100 tonnes of graded sand, aggregate, and screed material per day, ensuring a steady flow of resources to the site. This allowed us to install between 100m² and 400m² of screed per day, depending on site conditions and lead-in times.
Project Outcome: We successfully completed the installation across all four floors, ensuring a high-quality screed surface ready for subsequent building stages. In addition to floor screed installation, we supplied and fitted insulation systems, polythene barriers, and liquid damp-proof membranes (DPMs), providing a comprehensive flooring solution for this large-scale project.
